The Lion Cubs helped Coventry Boys’ Lax by collecting used sports equipment that was donated to various Philadelphia community programs, it was collected at the Spring Thaw lacrosse tournament and greatly appreciated.
The cubs will also finish their collection for the Berks County Animal Rescue League this week, which is impressed with our program and excited that OJR thought of them.
This week The cubs are also helping out with the landscaping of the East Coventry entrance. They will be helping with weeding, planting and designing a large paw print and “EC” letters. They may also be helping Kindergarten design their own “Kinder Garden.”

This Easter 25 disadvantaged families were helped out with a delivery of a large Food Basket. The Coventry Lions delivered the baskets to families in the OJR School District area. The baskets contained hams, fruit, bread, pies and more from the funds garnered from the fund raisers (think turkey raffle) the Lions had this year. Also, over 150 non-perishable food items were collected by the Lion Cubs and the second grade classes of French Creek that helped fill the baskets (decorated nicely by the Lion Cubs).
Each school in the district is also collecting used eye glasses which will help many people throughout the world see better.
The Coventry Lions are very proud of the Lion Cubs and the many service projects they have completed and are working on this year.

The cubs will be holding a drive for the Berks County Animal Rescue and spent their meeting time decorating collection boxes for the donations. The cubs will also be helping the East Coventry “Beautification Team” by helping with various landscaping projects several days per week. Last month the Cubs participated as station monitors and helpers in the Jump Rope for Heart Program.

We worked on the following projects:Feb 17, 2009 by Jess and Seth
Today we had a Lion Cub meeting to discuss and organize a school-wide project that the Cubs will be running. Our project is a grade 1-5 Anti-Bullying Poster Contest. The Cubs were put in small groups and put together a presentation that they will do for the younger grades about bullying and the contest. We also created sample posters so you as examples for the younger kids. The Cubs will then collect and judge all the posters from each grade level. The winner from each grade level will win a hour as principal with Mrs. Guy! The Cubs had a blast and hopefully the contest will be just as fun!

We just completed another club meeting. The ‘cubs’ made Get Well cards for soldiers recovering at Walter Reed Army Hospital. We finished early, so they combed the halls looking for teachers who needed help in their classrooms. The students were immediately put to work clapping erasers, washing blackboards, and helping teachers to rearrange bulletin boards to comply with PSSA regulations.
