2009 Coed Relays a Success

The third annual Coventry Lions Coed Relays were held Thursday May 21.  It was a great day for a track meet as several meet records were broken.  Teams competing in the meet were: Arcola, Owen J. Roberts, Lionville, Pottstown, Perkiomen Valley East and Perkiomen Valley West. Members of the Coventry Lions Club worked and officiated the meet along with several OJR High School track team athletes. Ken Hollinger was the PIAA official and starter for the meet. Area track guru Lawrence Harvey served as clerk of course and Pete Christ was the head timer.

This year, the Lions added a new event - The Lion Cubs Shuttle Relay.  This inaugural event was won by a team consisting of Lion Cubs from East Coventry and French Creek Elementary Schools "coached" by East Coventry advisors Casey Fischer and Kristy Hepner.

The meet was the main fund raiser for the Coventry Lions this year.  With help from its many sponsors, the club raised over $4000. The money raised will help the club finance its various community service projects.  The sponsors are listed below.

The Coventry Lions wishes to express their gratitude for the sponsors, attending teams and many volunteers that helped make this year's coed relay meet a success.

Coventry Lion Cubs Roar with Pride

Owen J. Roberts elementary schools students are inducted into the new Coventry Lion Cubs Youth Program

Article by Lion Frank Conforti, Photos by Lion Barry Bentley

When the principal of North Coventry Elementary School contacted the Coventry Lions about starting a Leos club in his school, he had no idea where it would lead. Dr. Melchor spoke with Lion Terry Stouffer about starting a branch of the Leos, but the students in his school were too young. Undaunted, Terry proposed that they start a new service club. This quickly turned into the formation of whole series of elementary school clubs within the Owen J. Roberts school district....

The Coventry Lions Club Introduces the Lion Cubs

Article and Photos by Lion Terry Stouffer

Lion Cub reading to nursing home resident "Last June, near the end of the 2007-2008 school year, Owen J. Roberts School District principal Jim Melchor approached Terry Stouffer, the school’s Middle School Track coach and a Coventry Lion’s Club Member.  Jim’s request was to expand the existing Middle School Leo Club by bringing a Lions Sponsored service club to the North Coventry Elementary School. This was the start of a new and fast growing idea for clubs in the School District.... Click Here to read more

Holiday Meals Delivered to Needy Families

On both Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Coventry Lions members distributed a full holiday meal for a total of 50 families. The meals consisted of everything you'd expect in a meal including a turkey, rolls, canned-goods and much more. The "Lion Cubs" (at OJR elementary schools) held a canned goods drive which were used to fill out the meals. Special thanks goes to Lion Terry Stouffer for his excellent organization of the meals for delivery and for initiating the "Lion Cubs" service clubs at all of the Owen J. Roberts elementary schools.
